OUR HISTORY
Global Missions Ireland which is the missions department of Cork Church. (CHY): 13718 (RCN): 20043421, was born out of the desire to see Irish organizations strongly represented in the missions field and to encourage and facilitate civil society organizations, businesses, churches and individuals to get involved by providing trustworthy and reliable working partners in Ireland and abroad.
The first trip was in 2002 when a team of 16 people travelled from Cork to Latvia. Latvia at the time was just emerging from the tyranny of the Soviet Union and poverty was rife, particularly in rural areas. It was from these first-hand accounts from the returning team that really highlighted the issues and struggles faced by people in the emerging countries and the challenges they face, birthing a desire in people’s hearts to reach out and impact lives.
GMI has now been running for many years building shelters, orphanages, sending medical teams, supporting vulnerable school children and the elderly, clothing the naked, feeding the homeless and needy in many parts of the world including Ireland. GMI has also built up contacts with friends and partners in Ireland and other organizations abroad. Over the years, GMI has placed many people in short term trips around the world. Our main goal is to care for people and impact their lives through love, compassion and action.
